Meet The Board

President
Bregje Wertheim (RUG)
My ultimate fascination is how the genome shapes and affects the ability of organisms to adapt to a changing world. I have been investigating the causes and consequences of genomic variation within and among species for at least 20 years, using a combination of experimentation, genomic approaches, and bioinformatics. My scientific expertise further includes evolutionary biology, ecological interactions, ecological and evolutionary genomics, genetics & heredity, and entomology.

Secretary
Michael F Seidl (UU)
I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Biology at Utrecht University. I am an evolutionary bioinformatician that uses computational methods and data from large-scale (gen)omics experiments to unravel how molecular processes generate genome variation and how this variation, in turn, affects genome organization, functioning, and evolution of eukaryotic microbes.

Treasurer
Hilje Doekes (WUR)
I am an assistant professor in theoretical evolutionary biology at the laboratory of Genetics of Wageningen University. My research uses computational and mathematical models to understand how the (spatially structured) communities that micro-organisms live in shape their evolution. I like to collaborate with experimental biologists to link theory to data and vice versa.

ESEB liaison
Kees van Oers (NIOO-KNAW & WUR)
I am a senior researcher and group leader in the department of Animal ecology at the Netherlands Institute of Ecology in Wageningen and special Professor in Animal Personality at Wageningen University. I am an evolutionary behavioural ecologist with interests in how animals behaviourally respond and adapt to rapid changes in their environment and how individuals vary in this. I use genomic and epigenomic analyses to address this question.

PR officer & NLSEB Jr. Board liaison
Vasilis Kokkoris (VU)
I am an Assistant Professor at the Amsterdam Institute for Life and Environment (A-LIFE) – (research group of Ecology and Evolution) at Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam. My research focuses on better understanding the evolutionary significance of the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi unique nuclear dynamics across scales, and specifically, how they affect the function and fitness of the interconnected fungi and plants, in diverse abiotic and biotic conditions.

RUN
Barbara Gravendeel (Naturalis)
I am a group leader at Naturalis Biodiversity Center. I am a botanist and fascinated by the emerging field of research of evolution and development in an ecological context (eco-evo-devo). I investigate how molecular mechanisms determine the morphological diversity of plant organs, focusing on evolutionary development in ancient biomes (vegetation zones) as well as in modern environments, especially in cities.
