NLSEB 2025

The NLSEB 2025 PhD/postdoc meeting and NLSEB 2025 main meeting took place on Monday, April 7th at Wageningen University and on Tuesday April 8th at ReeHorst hotel in Ede. With over 115 members and guests in attendance, the meetings once again united our community.

The NLSEB Junior Board kick-started our yearly activities by organizing the PhD/Postdoc day on April 7th. This event, hosted at Wageningen University, brought together almost 60 junior scientists from all across the Netherlands and abroad. We held two workshops focused on developing and polishing our scientific skills: “Using Github” by Arjan Draisma, and “Science communication: How to tell a story?” by Marieke Drost. The workshops were followed by a vibrant networking event, featuring round table discussions to stimulate the creation of new connections in our community. With this, all the PhDs and Postdocs were ready for the Main NLSEB Meeting on the following day!

At the main NLSEB 2025 meeting, participants could attend two very exciting plenary talks by Inge Loes ten Kate  (Utrecht University) and by Hassan Salem (Max Plank institute) and a talk by the winner of the 2024 Netherlands Evolutionary Biology Prize Pasha van Bijlert (Utrecht University). There were further, parallel sessions with 20 talks, >25 poster presentations and a cultural intermezzo"THE BLIND MUSICMAKER" by Jorn ten Hoopen. For more details, download the abstract book here.

The poster session at this year's scientific conference was a true highlight, showcasing a rich and diverse collection of cutting-edge research from across the scientific spectrum. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with innovative studies and groundbreaking discoveries presented through a range of outstanding posters. We are delighted to announce that three posters were recognized for their exceptional quality in both research and presentation by the NLSEB. Congratulations to Koen Freerks (RUG), Nicky Faber (WUR), and Saijing Liu (Naturalis) on receiving the 2025 NLSEB Poster Awards!
